There’s a “critter” of some sort under my house or in my wall. It’s driving my dog crazy. I don’t know if he can hear it or smell it, but he’s barking and whining at the baseboard in the dining room. I heard a scratching sound one day last week. I think the unwelcome guest might be bigger than a mouse but I’m not sure. I’ve got a trap big enough for a raccoon or possum under my crawl space and I’m going to put this under there too in case the villian is of a smaller variety.

Can you tell what this is without reading any further?
I like macro shots. Macros let us see things in more detail than usual. Sometimes a real close up doesn’t look anything like you thought it might. This is a macro shot of something many of us start our day with…..coffee…..but it could be any of a number of things just looking at the photo – rocks, dirt, fine would chips – but I’m glad it was coffee!

I’ve made it through an entire month of this 365 day challenge!! Some days have been tougher than others. A few days I didn’t think I was going to get anything posted, other days I wasn’t sure I was going to get any photos made. If I can make it through one month, surely I can do 11 more….one at a time.
Today the roads were still covered with ice and snow, but starting to thaw. I went to the grocery store to get a few things and just inside the entrance there was a big display of flowers marked down from the store florist. Some looked pretty wilted, others weren’t so bad. I got a little bunch of daffodils just because they remind me of Spring. When I picked them up, I knew they’d be the subject of my photo today. I played with some new filters I recently bought too. I like the way this turned out. Think Spring!

The sun was out today. I loved the way it sparkled on the snow. The snow looked like someone had spilled glitter all over it. The temp got above freezing, so some of the snow and ice started to melt, only to refreeze after it started getting dark. Two photos today – the sun on the snow (I think I’ve got the hang of sun flare) and a close up of the snow showing the refracted light in rainbow colors. I didn’t realize until I zoomed in that the sun sparkles on the snow looked like stars too! Nice little surprise in the details.

More photos from the snowy South! We got snow, then a sleet and snow mix last night, so it looks like snow but is crunchy when you walk on it. About 4 to 5 inches accumulation where I live. I couldn’t pick just one photo again today….Here’s one of the ice on my mailbox. Notice it’s on the front from the blowing wind – put a layer of this on the road and you are in for an adventure! There is also snow on the top of the mailbox and ice about a third of the way down each side. The second is of a bunch of acorn hulls on the snow. I guess the squirrels remembered where they buried the emergency supplies. The third is icicles hanging of the corner of the house – you could put an eye out with one of these if it fell off!

The south is experiencing a major winter storm. It started as snow early this morning, then turned to a sleet and snow mix just before dark. It’s supposed to continue through tomorrow. This is the type of weather that paralyzes the south. We end up with ice on the roads – and no one can drive on the ice! Thankfully, I don’t have to go out all weekend. It should warm up by Monday so the roads will clear just in time to go back to work.
Of course I got outside and took a lot of photos. It might be another five years before I get a chance to photograph snow again – and then again I may have another chance tomorrow! Here’s a few of my favorites. The first is my backyard bird feeder full of snow. The second is a shot of some small branches in the snow taken almost at ground level. The third is from my front porch with flash – I was trying to capture the sleet/snow mix as it was falling. Without the flash it was hard to see. With the mix falling now I wonder if I’ll have ice shots to take tomorrow. I hope not – I have too many big trees really close to the house!
