This week’s theme for Theme Thursday is shoot something blue. I found several things but this shot of a mailbox was my favorite. Notice the date on it – 1973. I don’t know if it’s been there since 1973, but I do know for sure it’s been there since 1976 when I moved to the area.

Theme Thursday for this week is motion. Sometimes all you have to do is look aroung to find something moving. I tried getting some shots of my dog doing circles for a treat, but he came out too much of a blur, so I opted for the ceiling fan.

Not something in flight, but something that was once in flight. This is a sun dial at a local park. It is made from the tail sections of two jets. I used to know what kind of jets, other than big ones, but I forgot. :) It’s really a bit strange to look at because you can’t tell it’s a sun dial from the main road that passes behind it. I guess it’s “modern art”….it’s definitely different. As you can tell from the clouds we were about to have another storm. I just made it back to the car before the rain started.

Withoug going to my closet (haha) this is what I came up with for this Thursday’s theme of “worn”. The paint on this hydrant is worn and starting to peel. I’ve actually thought about painting it, but I don’t know if the colors I’d pick would be easily spotted by the fire department. Thankfully, this hydrant is in my yard,  but I sure hope it is never put to use.

I think this qualifies as use of negative space. It’s definely dandelion season in my neighborhood! This is straight out of the camera. I like the bokeh and the little bit of flare from the sun.

Theme Thursday for this week is “Home.” I took a little different twist on the theme. Today’s photo is of my mother’s hands. These are the hands that made our house a home growing up. These are the hands that taught me how to cook, sew, iron, take care of a baby, crochet, wash dishes, sweep and mop the floor, make a bed, plant flowers, write, paint, and all the other things I needed to know to make a home of my own. These are the hands attached to the arms that are always open wide for a hug whenever I need one. These are the hands of one of the strongest women I know. The woman that taught me how to be strong and always told me I could do anything I set my mind to and be anything I want to be. She still tells me this whenever I need encouragement. My mom is the one that taught me how to be a mom, a friend, and how to love, all by loving me. My hands look a lot like hers, so one day this could be my hands. I just hope I am able to give to my daughter and granddaughters everything my Mom has given to me. For all of this I will be eternally grateful. I love you Mom!
