After a bit of rain and a lot of humidity I found these mushrooms growing in the backyard. They must have sprouted over night. When I got home this evening the few that were left were wilted and laying on the ground. I guess direct sunlight and 96 degrees isn’t a good evironment for fungi! :)

All the trees and plants are really blooming right now. I love close ups of the details. Nature makes some really beautiful, complex things if we just take the time to look!

I roamed around my “wooded” back yard this evening to admire all the buds and blooms on the trees and plants. I really liked the way the sun was shining through these tiny leaves. The bokeh was an added bonus – to me it has a mystical feel. Maybe my dog will find a leprechaun or pot of gold under all the ivy…so far all he’s gotten is a dirty nose and paws!

A few isolated daffodils are blooming around the building where I work. They are in the middle of a grassy patch that was not landscaped during the fall. I don’t know if they were left there purposely or if no one new they were there. They provided a little punch of color to an otherwise dreary day with gray skies.

The other bloom caught my eye just as I got to the door of the building. It is a bush that has small white flowers on it in the Spring. These are the only blooms on the entire bush at the moment. It looks like a bunch of dead sticks trying to come back to life. I wonder how many people noticed it as they were coming and going today. I would estimate 500 or more people go in and out this door in the morning, at lunch, and when leaving the office in the evening. I hope there were some others that were not too busy or in a hurry to notice this little promise of warm weather to come.

Today was a better day, still gloomy in many ways. I did have a fun evening attending a seminar by Mike Larson hosted by our local PUG group. He had some great advice for photographers. If you get a chance, go see him. The weather here is still dreary. Forecast is looking bad for the end of the week, but ice – if we get it - might make for some interesting photos and a work from home day!

I didn’t get to make a lot of photos today since I was at the seminar. This one is of a “micro encapsulated age-defying” potion….a.k.a. a macro shot of the mosturizer I use on my face. I like the way the light hits the little pearls of the “secret formula”. Wonder what’s in them….hmmm….probably more of the same stuff that’s in the bottle. :)

I recently came across an article on how to mimick a tilt shift lens effect in Photoshop and thought I’d try it on a couple of my images. The instructions I followed are here. The instructions are pretty simple, but getting the look takes some trial and error. It took several attempts before I got the blur and in focus areas the way I wanted them. If you want to know more about real tilt shift lenses and what they can do, you can find more here. I didn’t think my attempts were too bad for a first try. What do you think?
