Today was a partly cloudy, dreary kind of day, so I though B&W was appropriate. This is a light post in a parking lot near where I live. I like the details on it. You don’t see many light posts with details any more.

I was out running errands as the sun was starting to set. Luckily, I just happened to have a camera with me. Both of these shots are SOOC. I didn’t even try to clone out the power lines. I wonder how many people didn’t even notice how beautiful the sunset was because they were in such a hurry. Everyone needs to stop and look now and then.

It finally warmed up for a while today! It was so nice to be able to get outside without a heavy coat. It was so nice I decided to grill tonight. Of course I could grill any night since I have a gas grill, but it’s much nicer when the weather is warm! I’ve always like the color of the flames, so why not take a photo of them.

When I saw this week’s theme Thursday was shadows, I knew what I wanted to shoot. This is what I see right before I close my eyes every night. The green light is the glow of a night light. It casts a stark shadow of the ceiling fan. I ended up having to do a 6 second exposure to get the shot, and it’s still not as crisp and clear as what my eye sees. It made me realize just how different what our eye sees and what the camera sees can be. I had to clean up a bit of noise too. It makes me sleepy to look at it.

The theme for this Thursday is light. Seems like I was looking for light in the dark – something I’ve been doing a lot of lately. The first shot is a friend’s cigarette lighter. The other two I made while in the car. That’s as creative as it got today.

I had an idea for this Thursday’s theme - darkness - and the weather cooperated. Even though it wasn’t quite dark, it was pretty close and the moon was almost full. I have tried for years to get a shot like this and thanks to what I’ve learned in the last couple of months I finally did it. Tonight I shot RAW. Even though I initially overexposed the shot a bit, leaving little detail in the moon, I was able to adjust it Lightroom and bring the details back. I’m know there’s still room for improvement but I’m happy with the best moon shot I’ve ever gotten. So to fit with today’s theme, a shot of the almost full moon just before total darkness fell.
