Two of my granddaughters spent the night with me last night. This morning and this afternoon they let me have some portrait practice time. This is my next to oldest granddaughter. She picked out the photo to post and even decided it looked best in B&W. We’ve had a busy, busy day so I’m glad I had help choosing today’s photo.

Today was graduation day for one of my granddaughters – graduation from preschool! She’ll be off to the exciting adventure of kindergarten this fall. She’s been wanting to to “big school” for three years. When her older sister started kindergarten three years ago, this one sat down in a desk and said, “I stay school!’ She almost cried when she found out she couldn’t stay.

They were all so cute! My granddaugther spied me taking photos and started trying to look over the heads of the other students so I could see her. At one point I changed locations. After looking to the place I had been standing several times, she started slowly going around the room. Her eyes lit up and she started waving when she found me . When she got her diploma she turned around and gave me a quick smile for the camera. They grow up too fast!

I know this isn’t one of my better shots, but I discovered the PhotoStitch software that came with my camera tonight. I decided to try a panorama of the villianous tree that dropped the branch and put a hole in my roof. Damage so far – $375 to fix the roof and one estimate of $550 to trim the other dead branches from the tree. Getting two more estimates for the trimming tomorrow. $925 would have bought a really nice lens….<sigh>…..

My hydrangeas are starting to bloom along with my hostas. I’ve never noticed the blooms have three small and one big petal until this year. I guess you do see things differently – maybe more like they really are sometimes – through the lens of a camera.

When I let the dog out this morning, I heard a squirrel scurry across the patio cover. I went out to see if it was throwing acorns at the dog and this is what I found. It had to be my photo of the day – because I can’t explain exactly how it happened. It must have happened yesterday while I was at work, because I’m pretty sure I would have heard it hit. I know it wasn’t like this over the weekend because I was outside with the dogs quite a bit and I’m pretty sure I would have noticed. It was hard not to miss. I think the squirrels have started group javelin throwing to protest the “squirrel hotel” next door being closed. What I can’t figure out is the angle, especially since this branch had to have fallen from my huge oak tree from straight over the house.

I have two repair people coming to give me quotes tomorrow on repairing the roof and someone coming to give me a quote on trimming up the tree that dropped the branch. I can’t afford to have it taken down – it’s probably 200 years old, 80 ft. or more tall and about 4 feet in diameter. The bad thing about it is it’s only about five feet from the house.

My hostas are starting to bloom. My hydrangeas aren’t far behind. This is a close up of the inside of one of the Hosta blooms. I had to play with some Lightroom presets too, just for fun. :)
