That annoying little bell started ringing on my car last week to indicate it was time to change my oil. I took it after work today and while I was waiting I roamed around the outside of the Firestone store taking photos. Lots of things have interesting details if you look really close. I wonder how many people have looked this closely at the tread on a new tire. I applied the infrared LR filter I found yesterday just to make it a bit more interesting.

Theme Thursday this week was to try something new. It was late when I got home from work so I wasn’t thinking much about some of the things on my photo “to try” list. After taking a few shots of my azalea that is now in full bloom, I had an idea. I’ve been wanting to try infrared, but since it was late and I was tired, the best I could do was find a Lightromm preset to simulate infrared. Here’s two before and after examples of the preset that can be found here for free! The effect on the azalea is pretty neat but the tree branches look to me more like a true infrared photo since the sky is black and the leaves are white.

I pulled some weeds out of my flower bed this evening. I think the squirrels forgot about some of the acorns they hid. I pulled up over 20 oak tree “sprouts”. I found a few things I didn’t expect that were perfect for some macro shots. One was half of a robin’s egg. There was no sign of the other half and I have no idea where the nest might be. The other was a small patch of tiny mushrooms. I’m glad none of the neighbors saw me laying on the ground getting the shots of the mushrooms!

I took a few shots of my irises this morning before I left for work.  The first blooms are starting to fade but many more have opened up. I’m glad they last for a while! (Did I mention I love flowers?)

I shot into the sun and love the way the bokeh turned out. Before I started this 365 project I could see something like this in my mind and HOPE the bokeh came out as I was seeing it – now I know how to do it intentionally!!! :)

Years ago, before cell phones, I used to always make sure I had a dime just in case I needed to use a pay phone while I was out. Then it became a quarter, then thirty-five cents….I have no idea what it cost now. I’m just surprised to run into one of these on occassion.

I encountered a lot of these along a fairly short stretch of road today – in a small town that 35 years ago had only one traffic light, but now has a mall and several shopping centers. The road is being widened in what was once the middle of the town. Of course some people in Tennessee joke that this is our state bird because you see so many of them ….:)
